John Elkann presented students at the Istituto Sergio Marchionne with a Scuderia Ferrari wing, marking the opening of the school year and the Prancing Horse’s enduring bond with Amatrice.
The visit reaffirmed Ferrari’s enduring bond with Amatrice, a town devastated by the earthquake that struck central Italy in 2016. In the aftermath of the tragedy, Ferrari’s then Chairman and CEO, Sergio Marchionne, resolved that the Prancing Horse would stand with the community, believing that rebuilding a town must begin with rebuilding its schools, because this is where a community’s future is written. The Istituto Sergio Marchionne opened its doors in November 2019, an occasion John Elkann also attended.
At the heart of the visit was Elkann’s meeting with a delegation of students, to whom he presented a wing for aerodynamic testing from a Scuderia Ferrari single-seater. The gesture was a symbol of the passing on of values from one generation to the next, offered as a source of inspiration for the young people of Amatrice as they look to their own futures.
Ferrari’s relationship with the Istituto Sergio Marchionne continues to grow through a series of new educational initiatives spanning every stage of schooling, including a new Immersive Classroom for nursery school pupils.
The occasion also reaffirmed the wider scope of Ferrari’s focus on education. In Maranello, Ferrari is developing M-TECH Alfredo Ferrari, a new public educational hub designed to train the next generation of engineers and technicians from around the world. Spanning 32,000 square metres, M-TECH will bring together the Istituto Alfredo Ferrari, MUNER and ITS Maker Academy within a single education ecosystem, alongside a new international partnership with public North American higher-education systems. M-TECH is due to open in 2029, Scuderia Ferrari’s 100th anniversary year.
Also in Maranello, the Scuola Bottega project – the result of a collaboration between Ferrari and the local municipality – is designed to bridge the gap between school and industry for lower secondary pupils. And for upper secondary students, the e.DO Learning Centre at the IIS Fermo Corni in Modena provides hands-on training in STEM, coding and robotics in a laboratory that has been completely refurbished with Ferrari’s support.
Together, these initiatives reflect Ferrari’s enduring belief in nurturing talent and opportunity for future generations.
